Excellent option for a country stay near Assisi. Be aware that Serena is 12 km out of Assisi on a winding mountain road. However, the area is beautiful and the owners provide a superb welcome.

This place is great. Monica and Lucca are wonderful hosts. Before we got there, Monica was e-mailing us information about the weather, how to dress, directions on how to get there and what to do. When we arrived, Monica greeted us with homemade Lemoncello and got us checked in. Lucca helped us with restaraunts and reservations. Country House Serena is located about 12k outside of Assisi in the mountains. It was as peaceful a place as I have ever stayed. You heard the occasional rooster in the morning from across the valley. At night, it was clear skies and great views of the stars. The scenery from the apartment was typical Umbria, beautiful valleys and rolling hills. The only drawback was the distance from town. If you will just allow an extra 15 minutes going and coming, it will be worth the extra time. The kitchens were fully stocked with utensils, plates, bowls, etc. We ate at the apartment three nights. On the night we cooked at the barbeque, Monica helped with the fire and even brought us salami to snack on while the steaks were cooking. We ate in their meeting room that night. While you don't have an oven in the apartment, you have two burners on the cooktop and a microwave. This was a convenient place to explore Umbria and Southern Tuscany. All in our group loved the place and our hosts. Highly recommended.

Excellent accommodation!! Great, well provided apartment with incredible vistas, in quiet area, with most helpful and friendly hosts. All the benefits of being in the wonderful rolling countryside, whilst being most convenient for visiting all the fantastic nearby historic towns. Highly recommended.

Il posto è splendido, l'accoglienza è meravigliosa. Le stanze e le attrezzature messe a disposizione della clientela corrispondono perfettamente alla descrizione. Sia la signora Monica che suo marito, gestori di Serena Country House, sono delle persone affabili e disponibili. Contiamo di ritornare sicuramente anche perchè la struttura, grazie alla sua posizione, è perfetta per visitare l' UMBRIA !!

Serana is an excellent place to have a peaceful vacation. The downside the the location is that you really need to have a car, as e.g. the nearest shop is about 12 km away in Assisi and to the nearest restaurant 5-6 km. We stayed in the Scuola apartment, which had: kitchen (fully equipped), living room (with a sofa which can be used as a bed) and bedroom with double bed. That was room enough for two people. We had views of the Monte Subasio, at evenings the only sounds were from the animals from the nearby farms. The day time temperature was around 35-37 during our stay, but in the evenings it dropped to around 24-25 as Serena is located about 600 meters high. This also meant the the inside of the house stayed cool. During the days the pool was a good way to cool off. Some hints if you want to book Serena: - The road to Serena (SS 444) starts from outskirts of Assisi center, from Porta Nuova onwards. It is a mountain road with plenty of turns - and the Italian drivers seem to think that the speed limits are minimums, not maximums. - There is a SIDIS supermarket near Porta Nuova (by the AGIP petrol stattion), a second one which we also used is a Conad supermarket just before the Assisi turnoff on the SS75 road. - If you want to drive over the Monte Subasio to Spello, the road after the summit is really bad whith bug rocks on the road. But the sights are fine and Spello was an excellent litte town.

This place is much better than photos indicate. This young family grew up in this area and have completely restored this exceptional homestead. The pool and tennis courts are wonderful. It is a bit removed from Assisi but a great place to base out of for a few days and explore Umbria. Wonderful hosts. Great wines. Should not be missed.
