This hotel was very convenient for us as train travellers. Our stay in the hotel was very good. We would stay there again. Two things for us were negative: we like cold bedrooms and this one was warm, and, to cool it off we opened the window as wide as possible. The street noise gets loud early, especially on market day. We cannot comment about the hotel's suitability for a family because we don't know what family facilities they have.

1. Wifi not working for 48hrs 2. AC ineffective so had to open windows at night, which let in excessive traffic noise (had to use ear plugs) 3. No room for suitcases 4. Away from Salzburg's tourist area, poor selection of restaurants in area

We were very pleased with our room and felt it was good value at the price. The breakfast was excellent and included in the price. The hotel is very close to the railway station and was particularly convenient when we arrived by train late at night. It is a short walk from the centre of Salzburg and the old town.

Found the hotel staff very helpfull, inclusive buffet breakfast plenty to choose from. no evening meals available but found a couple of places nearby to eat.we had a taxi from the airport which is only 15 mins away 14 euros. we walked into salzburg which you can easily do either through the town or along the river bank, again only 20mins.This was our first visit to salzburg and we really enjoyed it with the excellent weather for the first week in april an added bonus. just take plenty of euros with you as everything is expensive

The breakfast was outstanding! The personnel very gracious and helpful. I had questions concerning the use of the local bus service and the girl at the desk was very helpful. There is nothing better than after a full day of sightseeing being able to relax in the sauna. The hotel is only 5 minute walk from the train station and 1 block to the bus stop. We were very satisfied!

A really nice hotel. Excellent breakfast, one of the best we ever had, with a very big variety of fruits (many exotic also), cereals, cheeses, sausages, eggs and omeletes, pies, yoghurts, mermelades etc. We also had an excellent dinner at the hotel that it was worth enjoying it. The staff lovely and ready to help us in any time we needed it.

The hotel was a flat and easy to find 5 minute walk from the train station and a short walk to the old town for good shopping and restaurants. An older hotel but very recently renovated. The rooms were freshly painted, the decor was lovely, very clean crisp linen on the bed with a new large marble bathroom. Very good value for money. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I have been to this hotel before and would return again. There is one employee that we have trouble with but I think it's a language barrier and not personality. The breakfast is good and the rooms are very nicely decorated. It is about a 15 minute walk from the old city but for the price of the hotel compared to others for the same ammenities is worth it. One could always take the bus. It is on a busy corner but they have temperature control for summer and the windows block out all noise.

The staff were excellent, we came in much earlier than expected and thought we might drop our luggage off until check-in but the rooms were available we we were able to prepare for the full day of activities. The food was great as well as the service. The only thing to be aware of is it is a european hotel, Americans should expect smaller rooms than in the US. This is where I'll stay when we come back to Salzburg.

I was in Salzburg many times and it was my first accomodation in this hotel/ It was choosen due to the closest location to the Central Rail Station. I very like this hotel, it is nice equiped, has large restaurant and wide range of breakfast meal. The room was big and nice decorated. There are special services for relaxation, spa procedures and massage. The bus stop to Salzburg downtown is 1 min to walk. Unfortunately Internet WiFi access is relatively expencive.

The breakfast staff were efficient but a little aloof. The evening staff at dinner were on the whole pleasant but failed to bring desserts and extra drinks without several requests. This is a lovely hotel and although it is on a busy street the room was quiet. It was easy to find and the parking was good. It is a pleasant 15 minute walk through the Mirabell Gardens and along the river to the old town. Breakfast was good. It was good to have air conditioning and free internet access. My only criticism is that we had a triple room and the third bed was a bed settee which was not so comfortable. At the price I'd expect a bed.

This was an excellent hotel and I would definitely stay here again. The only issue I had that prevented this from being an overall exceptional experience was some maintenance they were doing relatively early one morning which awoke my family and me. However, I view that as an anomaly/outlier. Other than that, it was a great experience ranging from the nice, clean and spacious room (we were on the top floor in a newly renovated room that slept four) a wonderfully helpful staff (making reservations, providing information, etc.) and a great morning breakfast (one of the best of all the hotels (13 I believe) we stayed at throughout our five week trip throughout Europe). The hotel is very close to the train station and bus routes. Based on my experience, I highly recommend this hotel.

Quite happy with overall quality & cleanliness of hotel. However this hotel was a Best Western when I booked it and I feel that I should have been informed that this had changed ownership. Best Western are a reliable and internationally trusted company and this change would have most probrably altered my decision to stay there. I realise that we stayed over the New Year Period, but it would have been nice to know that there were going to be no restaurant or bar open until 6th January. This was particularily annoying as the restaurant and bar facilities displayed on the website looked very appealing and did not mention any closures.

The bedroom was very clean, well equipped and quiet. The bathroom benefitted from a separate toilet and the shower was huge - we shared of course to save water! In fact we could have spent more time in the shower but we only had one night. We arrived too late to eat at the hotel but the receptionist recommended a Gasthof a block down the road which served until 2am. We had an excellent meal which was extremely reasonable. We would definitely go back to this hotel. It was situated across the river from the main streets but very near to the railway station - which is one of the reasons we booked it as we took the train to Vienna for the rest of our holiday.

I stayed for two nights, and was glad I booked this hotel. The facilities were spotless, the room was enormous - not the norm for a single traveller, and I was very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and a good variety, with reception open 24 hours for late revellers! For anyone flying in to the airport - get a #2 bus, and alight at Kiesel. The hotel is 2 mins round the corner. The bus stop across the road from where you alight is ideal for going back. If you want a hotel in a scenic part of town - which wasn't important to me - this wouldn't be the hotel for you. But it is only 10 mins walk to the Mirabel Gardens, and 20 mins from the heart of the old town - and it's excellent value for money.

We requested one room for four adults and were quoted $144 per night, which we thought was great and took it. When we arrived at the hotel, they informed us that this price was for 2 adults and 2 children, and we ended up having to stay in 2 rooms for $110 each. So what we read on Venere and what happened at the hotel was quite different. They said it was in the fine print, but we never saw it. So we were dissappointed to have to pay so much extra. We decided to find another hotel for our second night. Besides that, the hotel was very nice and breakfast was great!

We stayed in a triple room, facing the street. However, there was no traffic noise thanks to excellent sound insulation. The room was quite spacious, bright, sparkling clean and very pleasant. It was a very nice room to return to after walking about Salzburg. For folks who don't mind a short (10 minute walk), this hotel offers a very fine option. It is also within very easy walking distance from the rail station. The hotel restaurant was a bit short-staffed on the day we stayed (Austria's national day), perhaps there is better staffing ordinarily. However, the food was surprisingly good for a hotel restaurant and we enjoyed our meal. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Salzburg was the last stop of a 1 week tour of Italy, Slovania, & Austria. The Zum Hirschen was the most accommodating Hotel we stayed at. The staff was very helpful & the breakfast served was 1st rate. The only negative thing we incountered, was that the internet states that the hotel has laundry facilities. Wonderful! We had a large, comfortable room that was very clean. Everything in the hotel seemed newly updated and fresh. The staff was helpful in everyway. Lots of unexpected extras, such as a wonderful sauna on the fourth floor to shake off the winter chill and a restaurant that served traditional meals made from all organically grown ingredients. All this for a very reasonable price!

We enjoyed this hotel. It was easy to find and we got exactly what had been advertised on the web site in terms of price andf quality. Breakfast was really good - one the best we had on the whole trip. Definitely recommended.

This was the best hotel we stayed in during a three week family vacation. The food was excellent (breakfast and dinner), the family room spacious and the hotel was extremely clean and well-run. The staff were also very friendly and helpful, which is invaluable when travelling with children.

Overall, we could not have been happier with this hotel. We booked during the very busy Advent season when most hotels were fully booked. We easily secured a triple room and family room. The rooms were quite spacious by European standards; the family room had two separate bedrooms and was very well-priced for the size. The rooms were exceptionally clean. Reception staff was very friendly and helpful in booking tours, concerts, and providing directions. Breakfast was generous and offered great variety. The hotel is conveniently located across from a small shopping mall. A great stay -- highly recommended.

Single room are very nice, with a lot of space, nice large bathroom and very clean. Buffet for breakfast was ok. The people working at the registration desk did not seem to be always happy to work there and to help customers. I arrived early the first day (10am) and the lady told me I had to wait until 2pm for a room. The manager arrived and saw I was tired and he found me a room right away. I was very thankfull for that. He seemed to be very carefull to his customers, but was probably the only on.

We were extremely happy with our hotel selection. Check in was after 2 p.m., but a storage room was available for our luggage while we started exploring the city. The hotel is on a main street but was very quiet with an attractive beer garden that the rain did not allow us to sample. It is in a very convenient location, very close to the train station. It is within walking distance to the old town, but also close to the bus stop and terminal for a quicker (or drier) transportation to the main attractions. We were more than delighted with the size and décor of our room. We were on the fourth floor: entry area with desk, trouser press, and storage; separate toilet from the large bathroom area; large, nicely decorated room with sitting area. By our measure, we would consider it a suite. Also, on the same floor there was a sauna available to the guests. All the staff (both hotel and dining room) were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was exceptional with many choices including egg dishes made to order. A great array of juices complemented the buffet variety. They rightfully pride themselves in having all organic (BIO) foods! We were also very happy to relax at night in this popular restaurant. Our dinner selections were very good and plentiful, with American-sized portions! Again we would definitely recommend “Hotel Zum Hirschen” to fellow travelers. It exceeded our expectations.

Excellent location. It is about 10 minutes walk from the train station and it was easy wheeling our suitcases along the smooth pavements. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. We were given 2 spacious rooms with an interconnecting door, which we really appreciated. The bathrooms were spacious as well. The breakfast was superb by any standards. I would definitely stay there again. Highly recommended.
