This hotel has its pros and cons. Pros: The rooms are spacious and quiet. The sauna area is nice. The location is practical between the railway station and the old town with easy access to both. Cons: The quality of the food at the restaurant is very low. I got my jacket potato cold and completely undercooked and the ribs were very salty. My companion's Wiener Schnitzel was OK but the potatoes were again undercooked. The service was very slow. The quality and competence of the staff was variable. We booked a tour with Panorama Tours on Friday evening for Saturday afternoon with the elderly man at the reception. We turned up at the reception at 13.40 as advised only to find out that he had not contacted Panorama Tours at all to book our place. This time there was a young man at the reception who was helpful and competent. He contacted Panorama Tours straight away and made sure we got booked for a tour on Sunday morning instead. We were quite lucky that we had the "extra" day so that we could use the tour, especially as we had already paid for it. Would I stay there again? Maybe. It was not totally bad but I will definitely check for alternatives the next time I go to Salzburg.

We had a nice room which was excellent value for the price. The breakfast cost extra but was very good and, in chilly December, a nice touch was mulled wine (Gluehwein) available free at reception. Just 15 mins walk to the old town - I would recommend heading for the river and walking along its banks.

We found this to be a lovely hotel, and our stay was made even better by the wonderfully friendly staff. The receptionists could not have been more helpful and gave us great advice on what to visit and how to get there, as well as supplying us with tea, maps, suitcase storage, Salzburg Cards and stamps - they even posted our postcards for us. The location was great, too, between the train station and the Mirabell Gardens: it's maybe ten minutes walk to Mirabell and the bridge to the old town is just beyond, but there's a bus stop less than a minute away so if you don't fancy walking it you can jump on one of the frequent buses. The neighbourhood seemed clean and safe, and there's a small shopping centre just across the road. The breakfasts were superb in quality and choice, and the attached restaurant was also good, with very friendly service. The room was clean and spacious with big windows which made it nice and sunny. Although we were very near the lift, it was also perfectly quiet and peaceful. The bathroom was large with a good shower. We were very happy with our stay and would certainly recommend the hotel and stay there again next time we're in Salzburg.

This hotel was very convenient for us as train travellers. Our stay in the hotel was very good. We would stay there again. Two things for us were negative: we like cold bedrooms and this one was warm, and, to cool it off we opened the window as wide as possible. The street noise gets loud early, especially on market day. We cannot comment about the hotel's suitability for a family because we don't know what family facilities they have.

I have been to this hotel before and would return again. There is one employee that we have trouble with but I think it's a language barrier and not personality. The breakfast is good and the rooms are very nicely decorated. It is about a 15 minute walk from the old city but for the price of the hotel compared to others for the same ammenities is worth it. One could always take the bus. It is on a busy corner but they have temperature control for summer and the windows block out all noise.

This was an excellent hotel and I would definitely stay here again. The only issue I had that prevented this from being an overall exceptional experience was some maintenance they were doing relatively early one morning which awoke my family and me. However, I view that as an anomaly/outlier. Other than that, it was a great experience ranging from the nice, clean and spacious room (we were on the top floor in a newly renovated room that slept four) a wonderfully helpful staff (making reservations, providing information, etc.) and a great morning breakfast (one of the best of all the hotels (13 I believe) we stayed at throughout our five week trip throughout Europe). The hotel is very close to the train station and bus routes. Based on my experience, I highly recommend this hotel.

Quite happy with overall quality & cleanliness of hotel. However this hotel was a Best Western when I booked it and I feel that I should have been informed that this had changed ownership. Best Western are a reliable and internationally trusted company and this change would have most probrably altered my decision to stay there. I realise that we stayed over the New Year Period, but it would have been nice to know that there were going to be no restaurant or bar open until 6th January. This was particularily annoying as the restaurant and bar facilities displayed on the website looked very appealing and did not mention any closures.

The bedroom was very clean, well equipped and quiet. The bathroom benefitted from a separate toilet and the shower was huge - we shared of course to save water! In fact we could have spent more time in the shower but we only had one night. We arrived too late to eat at the hotel but the receptionist recommended a Gasthof a block down the road which served until 2am. We had an excellent meal which was extremely reasonable. We would definitely go back to this hotel. It was situated across the river from the main streets but very near to the railway station - which is one of the reasons we booked it as we took the train to Vienna for the rest of our holiday.

I stayed for two nights, and was glad I booked this hotel. The facilities were spotless, the room was enormous - not the norm for a single traveller, and I was very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and a good variety, with reception open 24 hours for late revellers! For anyone flying in to the airport - get a #2 bus, and alight at Kiesel. The hotel is 2 mins round the corner. The bus stop across the road from where you alight is ideal for going back. If you want a hotel in a scenic part of town - which wasn't important to me - this wouldn't be the hotel for you. But it is only 10 mins walk to the Mirabel Gardens, and 20 mins from the heart of the old town - and it's excellent value for money.

We requested one room for four adults and were quoted $144 per night, which we thought was great and took it. When we arrived at the hotel, they informed us that this price was for 2 adults and 2 children, and we ended up having to stay in 2 rooms for $110 each. So what we read on Venere and what happened at the hotel was quite different. They said it was in the fine print, but we never saw it. So we were dissappointed to have to pay so much extra. We decided to find another hotel for our second night. Besides that, the hotel was very nice and breakfast was great!

The hotel room faced a very busy street with traffic that was running almost all night. If you left the windows closed it helped reduce the noise quite a bit. Easy access to buses and trains. Walkable to old town and the river.

We stayed in a triple room, facing the street. However, there was no traffic noise thanks to excellent sound insulation. The room was quite spacious, bright, sparkling clean and very pleasant. It was a very nice room to return to after walking about Salzburg. For folks who don't mind a short (10 minute walk), this hotel offers a very fine option. It is also within very easy walking distance from the rail station. The hotel restaurant was a bit short-staffed on the day we stayed (Austria's national day), perhaps there is better staffing ordinarily. However, the food was surprisingly good for a hotel restaurant and we enjoyed our meal. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.

We had a very good dinner in the restaurant as well as the continental breakfast. The size of the hotel facility was good, making it cozy and quaint. It was very convenient as we were travelling by train, 5 minutes to the station and also a comfortable walk to Old Town. Compared to higher prices closer to the Old Town, I would recommend this hotel.

Well appointed hotel! Very clean, very EUropean and very well taken care of. The staff was very helpful and excellent. The included breakfast ranks among the best that I have had in Europe. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the old city, but a wonderful scenic river walk into town. A five minute bike ride to the old town. All in all a very nice hotel with excellent amenities.

A very nice and clean suite for my family of 4 with a nice spa and free internet service. Tours were booked at the hotel as well as pick up service. Receptionist was very knowledgeable about where to purchase items in the area. Parking located at the hotel in a safe area and a 10 minute walk to the centrum. Also, a huge selection was available at the breakfast buffet.

Salzburg was the last stop of a 1 week tour of Italy, Slovania, & Austria. The Zum Hirschen was the most accommodating Hotel we stayed at. The staff was very helpful & the breakfast served was 1st rate. The only negative thing we incountered, was that the internet states that the hotel has laundry facilities. Actually, the laundry facilities was about 1 mile from the hotel, & we had some trouble finding it. But over-all, we found the stay very enjoyable, & would highly recommend it.

We much appreciated the fact that the room was in two parts like a mini-suite, and had two TV sets. The garden restaurant was quite enjoyable. The breakfast buffet leaves nothing to desire, and the multiple saunas, too. The only inconvenient is that it's located is not in a residential area.

Our first stay at this property. Very comfortable, quiet room. Helpful staff, provided advice on tours and booked them for us. Hot buffet breakfasts with plenty of choice and eggs cooked to order were a feature. We also had dinner in the restaurant two nights - not because it was convenient but because the food and service was so good. Overall, this hotel offered better value for money than most hotels we used in Europe this summer. Highly recommended.

The Hotel Zum Hirschen was very clean with a spacious bathroom compared to others in Europe. The hotel is a little removed from the old section of Salzburg, but only a 15-20 minute walk. The breakfast was good in comparison to others in Europe and the staff very helpful and fluent in English. It was also one of the few hotels on our trip in Europe that provided on site parking without additional charges. I would recommend this hotel.
