The room was spartan but clean. The staff were friendly. No amenities but a coffee/muffin breakfast was available and a cheap grocery store was nearby. Great location, walking distance to many coffee shops, restaurants and all of Venice. Since it is an art school and gallery there was lots to see within the Collegio itself.

very nice hostel! but better is to reach it by feet, because from bus station (water bus)is the same far as from the main railway station and transport is 6.5 euro. stuff is very pleasant. on the 3d floor the shower was not very clean but on the first floor everything was perfect. and moreover this is very historical building, there are some exhibitions and private party.everything is very close.

I stayed 9 nights in one shared bathroom room. This hotel is a good choice for a short stay (3 nights maximum) or if you do not need to more than 5 hours of sleeping by night. There is no shutter so the night you have the light from the moon and from boats and the early morning the sun wake you at 5:30AM. There is also a church tower which ring each 30 minutes and a lot of noise from others clients until 1AM(doors, speaking ...). Of course for the price there is no air conditioning so the night the room is still very very hot. Don't forget your mosquito lotion if you decide to let the windows open but in this case you have the feeling to be below the church 's bell. In positive: the staff is friendly and the rooms have a beautiful view. The hotel is also very well placed and very safe. I'd come back there again but not for more than 3 nights.

Cheap and is what u pay for. PS Extremely noisy!
France, Jul 2009
Very well located : away from all the crowed center,15 minutes walking from the bus station and the railway station and 20 minuts from San Marco, very nice and quiet place. The room is small but clean, the building is interesting and quiet. The employees were really nice and helpful. Take something to fight mosquitos if you want to sleep well, though...

Compare for what you get for this price and THIS !! place..the vlaue is very good. Maybe the sight in the backside is not that great..to frontside ( canale ) not many rooms . And the "missing " breakfast : go for somewhere around the corner in a typical bar ..

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The place is extremely old, so although it wasn't clean/modern...it kinda added to the whole atmosphere, I liked it (think of a night at an inhibited old castle...) except that there were mosquitoes and it did suck. I suggest you take mosquito repellent...and kill them before you get about 20 mosquito bites...

With hotels you generally get what you pay for. We paid 50 pounds per night for a double room in the very centre of Venice. And we go what we paid for. I have no complaints - it was just what we wanted, ie somewhere cheap we could sleep. But don't go there if you are expecting a degree of luxury. Finding the hotel the first night proved to be difficult. My best advice is to ask at one of the many 3/4* hotels around the area. They all seemed to know where it was. Directions are a little hard to follow due to all the small windy streets, but I got there in the end.

The place arround is very nice, autentiqu Venice, but the "Hotel" is a old college with floors and entree broken, with public bathrooms very dirty. In 3 days there does`nt go in the room. The window old and haeting not going. For mi is the hotel depresiv.

My room was a double one (I was alone) and it was wide and clean. At the reception they were kind and friendly. Unfortunately I could not visit the garden (I stayed only 1 night, arrived in the late afternoon and left early the day after) and the other parts of the Collegio - which must be magnificent - though the Collegio needs many restauration works. But that too, it's something more to add to Venice's ancient noble "palazzi" atmosphere. The only negative point of my stay was my neighbour, SO noisy (probably walls between the rooms are not so thick). But of course this is HIS responsability, not Collegio's.

i was there ín november, and it was too cold in the rooms during the night! i had to sleep with a pullover on and three blankets! so, i think in summertimes it would be a wonderful place to stay!!! but in cold days, its not as attractive!

The hotel is very cheap, basic but clean. You will not find anywhere cheaper in Venice. Don't stay here if you want a romantic break but perfect for a holiday on a budget. I was the last to arrive that night and offered bread, cheese and ham which was wonderful. Shared bathroom was fine, it is noisey but remember IT'S CHEAP!!!!

We stayed here because it was the only place we could afford. Lets face it venice is pricy! So I don't want to complain because the fact is that when on a budget this place is perfect. The location was very good and rooms satisfactory. What more could you ask for at that price. If you are looking for a romantic holiday in venice stay elsewhere. Good for serious travellers (a certain level of fitness required for the stairs too).

I've been there in september, during the architecture biennale. there were events organised in the same palazzio as the hotel, so it was quite noisy. also the acoustic insulation of the rooms is very poor, so overall I had to sleep with earplugs. BUT it is the cheapest hotel in the area (a very nice one), so I am satisfied anyway.

This place is fine for people just looking for a base of operations while staying in venice, but if you want to spend any of your time relaxing in your room you will be disappointed! The location is what makes the place tolerable; it is in a nice area in the centre of town and easily accessible. The walls are paper thin, we could hear our neighbours putting clothes on the chairs in their room, and had to endure them doing the crossword for most of the evening. Earplugs are a must in this place! My partner got bitten a good dozen times in the two nights we were there, so mosquito repellent is also advisable. Service is not the friendliest; when we went to check out, the man behind the desk claimed that their card machine was not working, and sent us on a 20 minute trek to locate a cashpoint to draw out the money for our stay. There was no helpfulness in his manner, and no apologies offered for the fact that despite booking with a card there was no facility to pay with it. Together with having to go up the 'secondary' stairs (fire escape, with no primary stairs in evidence), I began to find the place quite suspicious in it's differences from the website. Our invoice said we were on a B&B rate, but no breakfast was ever mentioned....

The location was perfect. There were many nice restaurants and bars nearby, and lots of students. The room was ok, nothing special but just fine to sleep some nights. The bathrooms were not so near from our room but that wasn't a big problem because we stayd only for 1 night. Thanks!

Quality is low as compared to the price you pay, if you think about average Italian prices. But if you think about Venice prices, then it is fair enough. The place is fascinating, at once displaying past glory and present neglection. Good for groups and young couples, unless they are looking for a romantic accommodation. Night curfew at 1:00, which didn't really bother us.

France, May 2008
The hostel is extremely convenient for its location and has a very good quality/price rate. I recommend it for people used to youth hostels. Nevertheless, you should keep in mind that like in most youth hostels, there is no phonic isolation and you will have a group of drunk american back-packers coming back at 2 in the morning, shouting and slamming every door they meet. This cannot be avoided, but this is why you can sleep in the middle of Venice for 50 euros.

The room was good. We have booked a double room but they gave us a five bed room. Also the breakfast was very good. The garden was very nice specially for photography. The one bad thing about this hotel was the noise. When somebody walked on the third floor we could hear his steps! Totally the hotel was OK for somebody that want to explore Venice.

I found this place to be great. The price was amazing and the location was perfect everything we wanted to see was with in a 20min walk. Its not a 5 star hotel but its got good clean beds. The rooms are secure. The showers ain't amazing but good enough. The location was one of the best things to find somewhere in actual Venice for this price is great. Only think that's worth knowing is bring some earplugs because the church bells can be loud but they go off all over Venice this hotel is just unlucky to be a few building away from a bell tower.

the room was very good, much better than I expected. :) The bathrooms were very clean. We had breakfast as promised and it was good alswell. Coffe, three types of juice, buns croissants, buiscuits and cake. Jam, nutella and cream cheese. A lot more, than I expected for the money. The location is brillant. You can get everywhere by foot. the only thing I have to complain about is the church exactly next to, which rings very often. It starts in the morning at six. Oh and the room was very cold - we were ther in march. I would go there again.

Well this hotel was fun! My husband went to sleep and woke up with twenty mosquito bites on his hand. I still have scars from all my bites. This hotel is like a haunted house, dark and empty run by an old Armenian artist. This building once was an Armenian art college, but this building is just sinking into the water. If you want to stay in a cheap creepy ghetto building, this place is for you. Amanda

stayed here for the venice marathon and the property met all my expectations. However my expections were not great due to the reports I had read on venere.com, I dont think some of the comments were fair and this was because previous guests had not done their homework before going.I booked solely on price and location -£72 for 4 nights, 5mins walk to Plaza Roma and 5 mins to St Basilo waterbus stop. OK the accomodation is basic, and I would not take my wife, my room was like a prison cell, no curtains , just bars on the windows, it was on the 3rd floor, with a nice view (70 steps- try doing that after running a marathon, however it did serve my needs It was a bit noisy, doors banging etc, I would recommend earplugs and not getting a room opposite the showers and toilets I enjoyed my stay and will stay there again for the marathon, the building had character and a great garden at the back and I met a wide spectrum of people I would recommend the college for students, backpackers etc

Venice is really romantic, amazing city, but to stay in hotel inside the old city is a bit expensive. So we choose this cheap possibility. To say truth first moment we were shocked, room was like a prison with death moskitos on the walls, bed, wardrobe and amazing wiev from window on the city, nothing else.Place was quite noisy, because door was thin. And now positiv things-Hotel is really close to most important things, many restaurants around, place was clean, shover and toilet clean too.For few days of stay it was fine or for students and people who wants to stay in really romantic place too,but not expecting comfort only basic conditions

I had initially read some quite bad reviews of this hostel and as such our experience far exceeded my expectations. It is exactly what you would expect from the price and its communal areas are extremely clean and well maintained, as are the rooms. The only problem was the walls were not very clean due to the remnants of mosquitoes covering a fair amount of them! But friendly, clean, amazing price, (for Venice!) interesting property and fantastic location. Would recommend.

maybe the cheapest rooms in Venezia but the place is really "roots" we booked a double room and pay for twin beds... the curtain on the door of the room was an old newspaper sheet and the points on the walls are dead mosquitos... what a pretty decoration if you want to sleep late in the morning you should bring your own shutters with you : there is only a very light curtain in front of the window... and please don't look under your bed... it's the "dust sea"... This place is only for people that don't want to spend to much money in Venezia and who don't sleep to much and love animals (mosquitos like in amazonia)and dust

I would have no good comment about this place . There was dead bugs on the walls . We couldn't leave the window open because there was no mesh on the windows . Sheets were ok . There was no lift and there was 70 steps to the third floor . It was so crowded the two nights we were there due to function .People walking in the corridors up to 3 AM. So no sleep for us . There was no air conditioning and there were a lot of mosquitoes so it was not a good combination. I think other people had similar problems because there were many dead mosquitoes on the walls. The bathroom was not the one shown in the picture. We had a room with a private bathroom- it had a moldy curtain and the button to flash the toilet splashed water everywhere. They did come in to fix it, but they didn't clean the tile grout mess that they made. So, there was tile grout all over the bathroom floor afterwards. we told the staff, but no one came to clean it until the following day. They were nice enough to discount 10 euros per night when we complained.

Good place for staying in Venice. I think one of the cheapest! Rather quite and nice. Not crowed, but not far from the center. Enough free bathrooms. Beautiful courtyard, historic building. Everything was ok, except one thing. When we received the reservation information from venere.com, it was written "the breakfast is included in the price", but when we asked about breakfast in College, they answered that it is a mistake and they serve breakfast only for groups. Also we heard student voices in the morning, because our window was near their classrooms. Besides we were awaken by the church bell. But as a whole we liked this place and our staying there.

It was a fantastic experience overall. I was trying to stay at an old property n Venice and the Collegio is exactly that. It's a beautiful old palace in the heart of Dorsoduro, one of the districts right in the middle of the main canal and quite near the Vaporetto stop; however, if you're carrying heavy baggage be prepared to walk for approximately 10 minutes along small streets and cross at least one bridge. If you are fond of beautiful antique buildings, then this is the place to be. It's a nice place to get to at night and have a shower and a good night sleep. Don't expect anything fancy, the rooms are very basic but the prices are the cheapest in Venice, which is an incredibly expensive city!

Probably one of the cheapest accommodation in Venice, though there are some points to mention: - The rooms are very small, about 8 square metres. - The bathroom they show on the photos are not the one you can use, I only saw shared bathrooms and toilets. - You can't enter the hostel after 1 a.m., because you don't get a key for the main door. - There is no breakfast. - The ballroom they show on this website is under construction - I guess like many buildings in Venice for quite a long time. - The area is nice and there are not many other tourists. - The staff is friendly. - The backyard/garden is great.
