exterior - entrance Anker Hostel exterior - entrance A 10-minute walk from Oslo's main street, the Anker Hostel offers budget Oslo accommodation within a short walk or tram ride of the city's most famous sights, such as the Royal Palace, as well as major concert venues like the Oslo Spektrum and the Norwegian Opera. It is also incredibly easy to reach as all trains and buses from Oslo Gardermoen and Torp Airports arrive at Oslo Central Station or Central Bus Station, both in close proximity to the Anker Hostel.

The Anker Hostel is a great place to stay for Oslo backpackers as well as anybody who is searching for a cheap holiday in the Norwegian capital. Here you will find no-frills accommodation that is comfortable and clean as well as all of those cannot-live-without items that are a real pain to carry around, such as towels, bedlinen, pillows and duvets. However, please remember that no sleeping bags are allowed.

There is a comfy lounge at the Anker Hostel in Olso which has a PC with broadband internet access and a café bar serving hot and cold drinks (including both soft drinks, beer and wine), as well as light meals, such as pizzas, lasagne and waffles, topped with Norwegian brown cheese. You can also purchase sweets, telephone cards, toiletries, the Oslo card and stamps from reception. Furthermore, alarm clocks can be borrowed from reception upon the payment of a deposit as well as pots and pans to use in the communal kitchen. All in all, a one-stop backpacker's shop!

In relation to other kinds of accomodation in Oslo, this hostel is a cheap and quite good possibility to stay. Especially if you stay just a couple of days in Oslo, because it´s quite close to the city-centre and the most important things you can reach by walking. Our double-room was fine, quiet and clean. The only real problem was the welcoming: The stuff sent us to the wrong buildung (the hostel is connected with accomodation-buildings for students, and our room was there). When we came back and asked again for the right way, he insisted to be right. So we tried again - without success. Finally - with the help of another employee, we found the right building, which of course was somewhere else. Altogether, we spent more than 1 hour to search for our room in the late evening because of incompetent stuff ... and nobody said sorry for this. So in general this hostel is a good and cheap possiblity for your stay in Oslo - but don´t trust the stuff if they send you to "House No. 5" in the middle of the night ...

Overall our stay was okay. But the rooms where not very clean, though acceptable. The stairs and elevators looked 100 years old and didn't have an friendly appearance. The doors are heavy and make a lot of noise when opened or closed. We read on the internet that the staff was rude and not friendly, but we have a different opinion. The staff was helpful and not rude at all. The neighbourhood is not the best one. There are a lot of people on the streets, often togehter in groups. It didn't make us feel very safe, although nothing bad happened. If you want to go to Oslo, it is acceptable to stay in the Anker Hostel, but there are a lot of better hostels in the world.

This is a clean and inexpensive (by Norwegian standards) hostel. Not in the best part of town but close to the railway station and the bus to the museums stopped practically right outside, so it was a very convenient location. The shower was strong and hot - just what we needed. It was nice to have our own bathroom. It is possible to walk to the palace and the central part of town from the Anker Hostel.
