Hotel Country House Casa Cantone - Cantalupo, Bevagna

Once we arrived, a quick telephone call ensured that someone arrived to register us and open up the apartment. Travelling in the dark caused us some problems, as we had to stop in Bevagna at a bar to ask our way. The signs for Casa Cantone were not visible in the town in the dark, and navigating our way at night without a satnav was a challenge. Those who looked after us during our two night stay were very helpful, and when there was a problem with the heating in the apartment we had booked, a swift upgrade at no extra price was made. The discovery on the following morning that both staff and we spoke French enabled better communication, although we managed on the first night by a mixture of sign, action and the few words in Italian that we'd picked up en route. The countryside around is beautiful. In April all is lush and green, with many of the bushes in blossom. Bevagna, which is a few kilometres from the Casa, is a town well worth a visit, and is well supplied with restaurants, cafés and trattoria. For those interested in the religious life or St Francis, Assisi is not too far away; for beautiful hill top towns, Montefalco and Spello are close by and for those looking for city life, Perugia, with bars, restaurants, museums and art galleries is a relatively short distance away by car.
