Venere's social commitment
Venere Net SpA collaborates with AMREF in its project for the Y.Y.OKOT all-girl secondary school in North Uganda.
Venere's commitment is to donate part of its sales proceeds from each reservation to AMREF, as well as to promote the project on our website.

What is AMREF?
AMREF was founded in Nairobi in 1957. It is the major non profit private medical organisation based in Africa.
After almost fifty years of activity, it manages alone or in collaboration with UNICEF, OMS and other humanitarian foundations, 140 development projects regarding health issues in East African communities.

Projects currently supported by AMREF, amongst others, are in the following fields:
  • childhood and adolescence - immunization campaigns, campaigns for the prevention of malnutrition and infectuous diseases, for the treatment and prevention of malaria; assistance and rehabilitation of disabled children;
  • sexual and reproductive health - medical assistance and education in obstetrics, family planning, infertility, sexual education to adults and adolescents for the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (including AIDS), prevention of tuberculosis and improvement of hygienic conditions;
  • medical assistance and handling of emergencies - “Flying Doctors Outreach Programme”; participation in humanitarian emergencies; laboratory and medical assistance to the populations living in out-of-reach areas;
  • consulting and training - “training centre” for African health care workers, its aim is to monitor and improve the public medical assistance by supporting and consulting the Health Departments and NGOs working in this area;
  • environment and health - promotion of nutrition safety and correct waste disposal, as well as promotion of campaigns aiming at solving the problems regarding the maintainance of the water supplies.

    Why AMREF?
    Because AMREF “Helps the people of Africa help themselves”.

    AMREF is important not only because it is a worldwide organisation, nor because of the number of people that it has rescued, vaccinated, aided and cured. Its main force is its deep knowledge of East Africa: it is an African organisation. It is made up of about 500 people, (of which 95% is African) working for the health and social development of the poor.

    AMREF helps Africa improve its own living conditions, carrying out self-sustainable, long-term projects. Local communities are actively involved in the realisation, management and costs of each project; training projects on working methods are promoted; necessary technologies are furnished to the areas; training courses are organised and only local resources are used.

    AMREF's African identity is essential for finding African solutions to African problems. Its aim is not to help Africa with temporary solutions from foreign countries, but to integrate the improvements of the living conditions in everyday life and in the culture of the local populations.
