This hotel, although only 5 years old, needs to pay more attention to maintenance. The carpets were stained and the shower curtains torn (causing major flooding of the bathroom floor) in our two rooms. Also, housekeeping was very slow, it took 3 hours to mop up the bathroom floor and FOUR requests at the front desk to get extra pillows. Internet rates are outrageous: 15 Euros per hour and the location, although 5 minutes from the city center, was in the middle of nowhere compared to similar properties like the Melia or the NH. On the plus side, the rooms were spacious and comfortable and we got a good rate (85 Euros/night including breakfast) . However, I would stay at the Melia or NH next time if their rates were competitive.

We were travelling by car and the hotel had sent excellent directions on how to get to the hotel. The garage is under the hotel and cost 13 euros per day. The rooms were excellent and very large and we had a wonderful view of the Cathedrals from our window. It is a short walk to get to the Plaza Mayor and the historic sites. The staff spoke English and were helpful.

The welcoming was polite and professional, but not really warm. We had two double rooms. One of them was smelling cigarette smoke (we were not requested if we wanted a smoking room !). Fortunately we could change it for an other room. We had seen the warning on Venere.com on the high price of the breakfast. Actually the price of the breakfast is not easy to find in the hotel (not indicated in the room documentation). We therefore manage to have breakfast in town. Apart from that, the location of the hotel is very convenient to walk to the historical center of Salamanca.

A really good hotel choice excellently positioned for all areas, old & new, of Salamanca. Staff were helpful and friendly. Rooms were spacious and wonderfully clean. The restaurant, although initially appearing a little expensive in comparison to other local availability, proved to be head and shoulders above all competition in the quality of food and the overall dining experience. Not only would I thoroughly recommend this hotel and the city of Salamanca but would absolutely recommend at least one night of hotel dining. A really good experience to which we would return again.

Only problem was that hotel signs made it seem as if breakfast was included. It was not and was pretty expensive. Other than that, the hotel was great.

We think the only issue with staff and service was the language difference between ourselves and the employees. We do not speak Spanish; however, given the nature of Salamanca as a university city we would expect more facility than we experienced at the hotel with the English language.

It was the best Hotel we stayed at during our extensive trip through Spain and Portugal. We very much enjoyed the spacious room, modern decor and general ambiance. A fitting Hotel for the beautiful city of Salamanca. The staff was very helpful and knowledgable and the price very much in keeping with what is on offer.(Which is not often the case in other Hotels.)The carpark inhouse is another bonus.

Very well situated. I appreciated the indications on how to go to the hotel. The only thing i couldn't get, was a special room for my son who is in a wheelchair (as asked when booking...)

Wonderful except for breakfast! Room and dinner superb. But at breakfast quite a few items ran out and not replenished and service was poor - think staff needed more training. Staying en route to Lisbon from Bilbao

Un bellissimo albergo a 3 min a piedi da Plaza Mayor. Stanza ampissima e confortevolissima. Possiede un comodo parcheggio a pagamento (12 euro) e un piccolo banco per le informazioni turistiche nella hall. Giudizio buonissimo.

No one told us that we got to pay for the breakfast as much as 25 euros. We thought it was included, as usually. The wireless Internet connection was very expensive as well. Garage was very very expensive, no service included with room price.

A beautifully appointed modern hotel in an historic building in the heart of Salamanca. Spacious rooms with spacious ensuites with fantastic views over the city (if you're at the right side of the hotel, I guess), especially at night. The car park right underneath the hotel is a bonus in an historic town like Salamanca which wasn't designed for cars. It could be made clearer though on the web-site that guests have to pay (about Euro 12.00/day, I believe). Surely, one of the best price/quality hotels in Spain.

Not difficult to find. Excellent hotel and staff. Would prefer no smoking in bedrooms - as previous occupants of our room certainly were smokers!! The garage parking was essential for us. Would certainly stay again.

How to reach Abba Fonseca Hotel

By car
From the north (Leon, Valladolid, etc.): Take the Paseo de Torres Villarroel, which leads into the Paseo de San Vicente. When you reach the first street where you can turn left (calle Espejo), turn and you will reach the hotel.

From the east (Madrid, Avila, etc.) or the south (Andalucia, Extremadura, etc.) go towards the city centre. Do not cross the bridges over the river. After you pass the Roman bridge, take the next bridge and when you come off of it, go straight. You will see the Congressional Palace to your right. Go straight ahead to the end of the street and then turn left onto a small street that goes uphill. Turn left again, and you will pass the Colegio Fonseca. You will then reach the hotel.

From the west (Portugal, etc.): when you go over the first bridge, go straight and follow the same directions as above, passing the Congressional Palace, going to the end of the street and then left onto a small street that goes uphill, and then left again.
